An auction prize for the chance to visit a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) rescue station raised more than £4,000 ($6,400) from insurers, lawyers and others of London’s maritime world.

The auction was held during an annual wine-tasting contest to support the RNLI’s Tower Station on the Thames (the busiest in the UK although located on a river). Last year the crews were called out 492 times, rescuing 128 people and saving19 lives.

Competition was fierce as it was the most highly contested auction prize, with a protection-and-indemnity (P&I) team put together by Tysers, winning the day against determined bidding from a rival Tysers table!
